Labubu fever made one thing inevitable: fakes. Collectors call them Lafufu – counterfeit plush that looks close enough in a listing photo and falls apart in your hands. Before you buy anywhere outside an official store, run these seven checks.
1. Price that is too good
If a brand-new, in-demand series is offered far below what official retailers charge, that is the loudest warning sign. Authentic collectibles do not lose 70% of their value between the shelf and your screen.
2. The tag and QR code
Genuine pieces ship with quality tags, clean printing, and scannable codes that lead to real brand pages. Blurry logos, misspelled words, or QR codes that go nowhere are classic counterfeit tells.
3. Stitching and seams
On plush, check the seams. Authentic production has even, tight stitching and no glue residue. Loose threads, uneven ears, or a lopsided face are what you get when molds and patterns are copied on the cheap.
4. Material and smell
Official plush uses soft, dense fabric with no chemical odor. A strong plastic or glue smell is a red flag that cheap materials were used.
5. Color accuracy
Counterfeits often get colors slightly wrong – too yellow, too pink, or too pale compared with official product photos. Compare against photos on the brand’s official channel, not the seller’s own gallery.
6. Packaging quality

7. The seller itself
